CHEFS' CLUB SUNDAY - ALL STAR CHEFS 

To mark the occasion of World Chefs' Day on the 20th of October, we are hosting an All Star Chefs' Club Sunday lunch. We are excited to welcome back to The Chefs' Table kitchen, Constantijn Hahndiek, Johannes Richter and Brett Gentles for a collaboration Sunday lunch not to be missed.

The Chefs' Club Sunday series is a way to showcase some of the most talented chefs in Durban as well as South Africa. Each guest chef is one we highly respect and who is doing incredible things. The menu is a collaboration between Chef Kayla and the guest chefs, and offers an opportunity to taste and experience local produce in a new and interesting light.

Constantijn Hahndiek

Cape Town born Tijn is one of the new generations of chefs who focus on using fresh, local and sustainable ingredients, combined with classical techniques which he learned while travelling abroad to the UK, France and Spain. His cooking has already been heralded by Eat Out, when Hartford House was named in the Top 20 restaurants in South Africa for two consecutive years. Tijn has made his name serving some of the most innovative, elegant and fun food in KZN.

Tijn left Hartford House in February, and has been enjoying some time off, away from the kitchen. "I am constantly learning and experimenting. It's not about finding a recipe and sticking to it, but rather about continually evolving and changing things up. We just need to remember that ingredients are key and so to try and source our ingredients locally wherever possible is what will make the difference. We only get one chance at this life but if we do it right, once is enough!"

Johannes Richter

Johannes Richter is the Chef Patron at The LivingRoom, a new food sensation to hit Durban, with his focus on “garden to plate” dining and artisanal cuisine.

Johannes, along with his wife Johanna in front of house, have captivated the Durban restaurant scene with “the heart and spirit their hands bring to their food”. His passion for regional products and sustainable philosophies finds him curating menus that will give you “a sense of home away from home”.

Brett Gentles

BRETT GENTLES

Brett is one of Durban’s most talked-about chefs, who believes that every meal should be a celebration of life. He is Chef Patron at Parc Café, a family owned and family run business where everyone is welcome and should feel at home. Formerly the chef at 9th Avenue Bistro, he is passionate about showcasing the finest local products and believes the ingredients should speak for themselves. His approach has been described as: “clever café food that plays with textures and fresh flavours”.

On October 24th, we welcome Shan Pascall of Oneiric Wine Estate to host a Food and Wine Pairing Dinner at The Chefs' Table.

O N E I R I C; pronounced “Oh! – ne – rik” borrowed from Greek terminology and roughly translated as ‘dream’ is exactly that – a hidden gem nestled in the heart of the cool-climate Elgin Valley. Renowned for their consistency of quality, vintage after vintage, the Oneiric range focusses on striking a perfect balance between beautiful fruit, silky tannins and a lingering finish. Our host, Shan Pascall is the spirit behind everything Oneiric. Her enthusiasm and passion for the farm is contagious, and we are looking forward to bringing her magic to the table.

Chef Kayla and her team are curating a one-off menu, paired with wines from the Oneiric Estate that will complement their elegant, food-friendly style of wine. This is an evening not to be missed.

Looking for the perfect way to start your weekend?

Join us for our Festive Fridays every Friday afternoon between 3 pm and 7 pm at our bar.  Mixologist, Lamoure Benton's cocktail menu features a range of local spirits, drawing inspiration from seasonal flavours at a price of R60 or less!

Terms & Conditions apply. Only from 3 pm-7pm. Cocktails will be served at the bar. Unfortunately no food will be served at the bar, please make a dinner reservation to enjoy a meal in the restaurant.
